In the Beginning was the Word

By Jessica Boffey, staff reporter

printable version

The word on the street today is John…excuse me, the 20,000 words on the street! All of them memorized, spoken, and inspiring from Brad Sherrill’s The Gospel of John. “A one-man performance of the fourth gospel in its entirety,” Gospel promises to be a moving and riveting experience that will not soon be forgotten.

Brad Sherrill began his ministry in 2001 and Gospel has since been performed in more than 250 churches and theatres in the United States, as well as a 2003 six-week run off-Broadway. The two-hour performance is divided into two parts: Act 1: Chapters 1-11 and Act 2: Chapters 12-21. LCU students will be blessed with a short preview in chapel today, but this is only a teaser for tonight’s performance. Act 2 of The Gospel of John will be presented at 7:00 tonight in the Moody Auditorium. Admission is FREE and all students, faculty, staff are invited to attend and bring their family and friends to the performance. Disclaimer: be prepared for something a little different…

Gospel stands out as a very unique presentation. Performed by one actor playing multiple parts using limited props that the audience must imagine including wells filled with water, fire pits, and tomb doors. But the most unique aspect of Gospel is the message itself. Sherrill states, “John’s Gospel is nourishment for the mind, heart, and soul. Christ communicated with a directness, passion, and authority which speaks not only to the body of believers but to each of us individually.” That is why Sherrill chose this story to tell and why those who attended are in for a memorable and inspiring evening.

To read raving reviews from newspapers like The New York Times and The Washington Post, or to get more information about Brad Sherrill and The Gospel of John, visited their website at www.gospelofjohn.com. Otherwise, clear your calendar and we will see you at 7:00 pm in the Moody for tonight’s special performance!

“Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.” (John 21:25 NIV)
